High school is the time for a
complete curriculum and labs, or community college. I have found it difficult
finding a good curriculum. I have just started reviewing the Teaching
Company and will let you know what I think.
Complete Curriculums
1:
Apologia
Apologia
Educational Ministries offers a full range of science curriculum, from
elementary grades through advanced high school materials; all are founded upon a
biblical, creationist viewpoint. Their biology, chemistry, physics and other
curriculum has been much lauded by parents, students, magazines and reviewers as
engaging, accessible and finally making science enjoyable! Written by a former
university professor, Apologia's direct conversational style, household labs and
free question and answer service make them perfectly tailored to homeschoolers'
needs.
This is a religious tile but is
not 'preachy' and is written from a scientific perspective. Lab
accessories are available, and recommended!

people)

These are truly strenuous books and are text driven, not lab.
They have lab books but it is
hard to do the labs at home. I like them for a 'base' of science before
high school science or for High School Science. They are intensive and introduce biology, chemistry,
and physics. All math is in metric units, and references are to Singapore.
You have to order their books and
teacher’s guides, and you are on your own for supplies. I recommend
getting the teacher's guide, and using that instead of the text.
3:Holt Science & Technology
The new edition of the Holt Science & Technology program for middle school
students features new activities, updated text, and new visual resources. The
revised science program includes new supplementary resources: the Holt One-Stop
Planner CD-ROM with ExamView Test Generator, Holt Online Assessment, and the
online edition of the textbook. The new resources include guidelines for
differentiation strategies, test-prep activities, integrated assessment, and
remediation activities. The Holt One-Stop Planner CD includes the Holt Calendar
Planner, Holt PuzzlePro, the Interactive Teacher's Edition, and lab
materials—all correlated with the HST curriculum. Holt, Rinehart and Winston

I
LOVE TOPS! This is the ultimate science program! I
taught preschool 3-5 year olds, 'older pre-kindergarten' (kids who need 'another
year' before going to kindergarten), and pre-school/kindergarten science
enrichment for years and this was my favorite curriculum! I could work
with any mix of kids and they all enjoyed it. We still, and always will,
use this in our home! Do not use this in place of a science
curriculum but in addition to.
I can not recommend strongly
enough that you get the 'stuff' kits! The only time I hear anyone complain
about this program is when they did not get the kits.
TOPS is that it is multi-aged so various ages can work
together, or you can repeat experiments over and over and still learn something
new. What they teach is solid science, so I recommend it for all ages
(yes, even high school!).
There is NO book in TOPS just activities, this is
100% hands on. Do not consider this if you are not looking to
learn in a hands on approach. **remember preK-3th
graders need hands on to learn, and most 3-6 graders need hands on to learn
also.
